LONDON -- As the vast majority of the Harry Potterbooks take place in the deepest,Christmas Night (2024) Hindi Short Film darkest '90s, the characters don't even have computers or mobile phones, let alone the internet.
It's a good job they can do magic, in fact, otherwise they'd have literally no way of keeping themselves entertained.
I recently re-read the Harry Potterbooks, and -- aside from Dudley's multiple televisions and Arthur Weasley's fascination with electricity -- it struck me just how tech-free the stories are compared to today's society.
Which got me thinking: what would J.K. Rowling's world have looked like if everyone didhave social media and the internet?
From the DA's WhatsApp group to Hagrid's wildly unsubtle Instagram posts, here's how things might have turned out.
Dumbledore would have had some interesting email conversations with Fudge.

Dumbledore's Army would keep in touch via WhatsApp.

Cedric Diggory would be all over Snapchat.

A teenage Voldemort's Google search history would surely have given him away.

Hagrid would have the least subtle Instagram ever.

Dolores Umbridge's Twitter feed would be laced with passive-aggression.

And her feed would reflect her changing state of mind as her year at Hogwarts progressed.

And finally, Snape's Facebook memories would be a really, really gloomy affair.
